We know our neighborhood!
On one of our trips,
you may hear…
“This stretch of the Snake has some of the best eagle nesting habitat in the country, so we need an eagle counter. We are trying to break the record set last week of 23 eagles sighted in one trip…At 13770 feet, that’s the Grand Teton behind us, but it’s not even the tallest peak in the state of Wyoming…Oh! There’s an Osprey and Eagle fighting over a cutthroat trout!...Around this corner where Fish Creek comes in you’ll find a 40-foot cliff with some 500 Bank Swallows having a Caddis Fly party…That bird over there impales bugs with its spear-like tongue…Keep an eye out around here, this is the home of the Bailey Creek River Otters…Check out the beaver dams down river…Yeah, there are actually more pronghorn antelope in the state of Wyoming then people...Look carefully in those willows—this is a good spot to see a moose. We can pull over here, and you can slide in the water and swim, if you like—just float on your back riding the current...”

Our Guides ![]()
We pride ourselves on having the most hard working and experienced guides in the valley and your safety is always their top concern. Our guides are not simply Snake River guides, but are river enthusiasts with experienced gained from rafting thousands of miles of river throughout the United States. All of our guides have CPR and First Aid certification, and many have earned their advanced wilderness and river safety certifications. Whether it is sharing a good story or spotting a bald eagle, our guides will help make you trip something you will remember for years to come.
Our Experience and Safety
Dave Hansen pioneered some of the first commercial rafting trip in the Jackson Hole valley. For over four decades, Dave Hansen Whitewater has conducted scenic and whitewater float trips on Wyoming’s Snake River and this experience enables us to give you one of the safest trips on the river.
What We Provide
All of our trips are fully guided in custom made NRS rafts. We will transport you from our meeting place in the town of Jackson to the launch site where you will be provided with life jackets. The rafts are also equipped with rain ponchos in the event of a sudden mountain shower. Morning and early afternoon trips on the 13 Mile Wildlife Scenic also include a snack or a deli lunch.
Jr. Guide Program
Every one of our guides loves to have kids in the boat. Maybe it’s because our guides haven’t quite grown past the jump-in-every-puddle, climb-every-rock stage of childhood, but they live to make kids laugh and appreciate the outdoors. Last year we began our Dave Hansen Jr. Guide Program with great success. Kids will get an activity kit including a wildlife Bingo card, word puzzles, and a tally sheet for birds and animals spotted. The guide will teach them how to spot Bald Eagles and as the official Eagle Counter, the kids will keep track of the tally (last year’s record was 21!). With the help of the guide, kids are encouraged to have a go on the oars, and at the end of the trip, the guide will award each kid a Dave Hansen Jr. Guide patch.
